Easy Vegan Recipes That Make Great Gifts Too if You’re Stuck For Ideas
Hi peeps and welcome to my second blog. So, if you are anything like me you can often be stuck for ideas for presents, either Christmas, birthdays, Mothers Day…….I can keep going!!! I have also found that I have been increasingly disappointed with shop bought brands of a few products that seriously are so easy to make at home….trust me 🙂
So these are 3 of my favourite go to homemade beauty recipes. Now I don’t claim to have made these, I have found them on the interweb and after trial and error found a few that I love. I have changed a few of the oils to ones I like, but hey, that’s the point. You can make what you want and don’t have to worry about a list of ingredients that you can’t even pronounce the name of, and best of all the are all vegan and cruelty free (if you buy from reputable sources).
Sea Salt Exfoliator
So first up is an exfoliator, we are in the middle of the best heat wave ever!!!! But, like most people I bet your feet don’t stay flip-flop ready!! So this a great go to easy to make recipe, that you can use on your feet and hands, or anywhere you want really.
All these are approximate measures
I use a mug in my kitchen so these are my measures
1/2 mug sea salt
1/4 mug extra virgin olive oil
A few sprigs of rosemary (from the garden or your local supermarket, you can use essential oil if you want)
The zest and juice of half a lemon
Method – combine all the ingredients into a bowl (if using oil then add about 6-10 drops, if using sprigs of rosemary then crush them in a pestle and mortar to release the oil then add to the other ingredients).
Take a small amount in your hand and rub in circular motions on the part of body you wish to exfoliate.
Rosemary is great for aches and pains, the salt removes the dead skin and the lemon contains malic and citric acid that help in the removal dead skin.
Honestly this is the single best thing you can ever do for your nails, oil them twice a day people!!!! Fingers and don’t forget those toes. I keep a bottle next to my bed and do it morning an night, you will have the best nails all year round that are flexible, nourished and grow like crazy. Isn’t that every girls dream?!?! Well its mine anyway 🙂
Use a 10ml empty nail polish bottle, you can get these off eBay for pennies!!
1ml vitmain E oil – essential for moisture of the nail plate, but the molecule is too large to enter the nail plate so needs a carrier oil
10 drops grapefruit oil – great for inflammation
10 drops Eucalyptus oil – antimicrobial properties and great for fungal infections and wounds
10 drops peppermint oil – antimicrobial properties
10 drops rosemary oil – great for soothing aches and pains
Top up with Jojoba oil – carrier oil for the vitamin oil and a fantastic moisturiser
Shake well before each use and brush on morning and night, massage in and you’re good to go!
If you want a good lip balm that isn’t full of petroleum jelly or palm oil to name a few nasties then this will be your new best friend. This is probably the hardest of all the recipes, but it’s not that bad I promise.
Put an empty glass bowl or a saucepan inside a saucepan with some water in the bottom and bring to the boil and then take down to a simmer (this is the same method used for melting chocolate).
Add 1 tsp shea butter
1 tsp coconut oil
2 tsp soya wax (beeswax if you don’t mind it not being totally vegan)
4-6 drops peppermint oil
Melt all this down on a simmer, once all ingredients have combined, use a small syringe (10ml from ebay) to syringe it into empty lip balm tubes (again ebay..…honestly how do I survive without eBay), this is the best method to fill the tubes. Then put into the fridge and allow to re-solidify. This should make 2 tubes that will last 6 weeks. I leave a tube in my handbag and one by the bed. Perfect!! If you want more tubes then just add more ingredients. You can also add mineral mica powder for colour to make your preferred coloured lip balm.
So everyone I hope this gives you some ideas for you and others! And that you don’t have to just get these end products from your local supermarket, especially if you want to know what’s in them.
